The Sunny Lane

While walking through inner Copenhagen, a narrow strip of sunlight caught my attention. The stark contrast between light and shadow invited storytelling. The title of the image is In the Path of the Sun. A gentle evening sun places the cyclist on the left in the spotlight. It is a dynamic composition with people moving in and out of the frame. There is a depth emphasized by the two shadow cyclists in the foreground, leading to the main subject. From there, the eye can wander to the brighter areas in the background.

As I move around the world, I am always on the lookout for interesting subjects, which either start with an intriguing event or captivating light. If the event is the main focus, I work on lighting it in the best possible way. If the light is the key element in the photograph, as in this case, I wait for something to unfold that supports the magic of the light. It requires some maneuvering around the subject and a good deal of patience. Behind me, a couple of tourists stood with cameras in hand. They observed my actions and movements, but I don’t think they ever really figured out what was so interesting to photograph here, so they continued towards Nyhavn. After 10 minutes, the sunbeam was gone. I continued through the city with a big smile on my face.
