Recipe: Crispy Moments

So, you’ve arrived in a foreign city, in a foreign country, and want to capture some of the atmosphere you’re experiencing in photos. Here’s my recipe.

Ingrediensts

Two cups of coffee

A solid breakfast

Comfortable shoes

A discreete camera

A portable music device with headphones (and a local playlist)

A traffic hub

One hour

Sunshine

Instructions

After having your coffee and breakfast, step into your most comfortable shoes and sling a discreet camera over your shoulder. Once you’re out on the street, turn on your music device with local music and get a sense of the place. Head to a busy hub, such as a train station or a pedestrian walkway. Look for places with interesting reflections, colors, or strong contrasts between light and shadow. Sit down and observe people passing by. Feel the music in your ears and watch life unfold before you. Adjust your camera to expose for the brightest areas, and set it to shoot as many frames per second as possible. Now the stage is set and you are ready to start taking pictures. Wait for special moments to arise and then press the shutter button. Move around the events. Try to create an interplay between the foreground and the background. Continue for an hour, or until you feel you have captured a sufficient amount of everyday moments. Consider returning later in the day for more activity or more favorable light. Select 3 images that you like. Give yourself a pat on the back and share your photos.
