Confession: I love photographs as much as I love taking them.
My collection of photo books is steadily growing and is gradually reaching meter measurements. I visit all the photo exhibitions in Denmark that I can, and when planning trips abroad, I always consider interesting exhibitions nearby. Recently, I became a subscriber to the danish newspaper Politiken, primarily to follow the work of the editorial’s talented photographers.
It seems entirely fitting to label myself a photo enthusiast.
Occasionally, I have visitors at home with a suitcase full of photographs that they would like me to look at and evaluate. What an honor to receive interesting photographs that skilled photographers from around the country have put efforts into creating. This is not an easy task. The other day I received 97 pictures that I need to assess and rate based on certain criteria.
I have an ambiguous relationship with photo competitions and have never participated in one. They don’t resonate with me; that’s not why I take photographs. However, judging these events is a different matter because they allow me to experience a wealth of creativity and dedication from fellow photographers. These pictures are a source of inspiration for me, and like all other photographers, I’m always on the lookout for the unexpected.
