Some locations in Copenhagen I revisit periodically. I have a feeling that these places hold greater potential than the obvious pictures I have already taken. Maybe I just haven’t “cracked the nut” yet and keep returning to see if there’s more to capture.

One of these places is Prins Jørgens Gård near Christiansborg, Denmark’s parliament building in the heart of Copenhagen. When I first noticed the photographic potential of the site, it was the gentle afternoon sun’s impressions on the architecture that appealed to me. The beautiful arches and vaults exude a sense of historical grandeur.

It is my contention that repeated visits help you see beyond the obvious pictures, explore different angles, and refine your skills. You simply gain a deeper understanding of the creative possibilities the location holds when you revisit it.

The light can be different from the last time, and the people passing by can inspire pictures with a completely different expression. The small inset photo was taken two years ago. The other pictures are from 2024. This time I placed less emphasis on the architecture and gave more attention to the people.

If you buy into the premise that there is always more to explore, and that you can always be newly inspired by familiar places, then you have just given yourself a world of new photo opportunities in your vicinity. “Been there, done that” is dead.
